Description:

With the development of the Volatile Organic Sampling Train (VOST) Protocol (February 1984) to measure organic emissions from hazardous waste incinerators, a wide variety of compounds have been collected and analyzed. Because its use is currently being recommended by regulatory agencies to measure emissions for compliance determinations, the VOST Protocol must be subjected to a methods validation study. The VOST validation program consists of two phases: laboratory validation studies and field test validation studies. The report documents the results of the field test validation phase. Because of the variety of organic compounds to which this method will inevitably be applied, the almost unlimited number of permutations that could be conceived made a comprehensive validation impractical. Recommendations relative to method improvements, quality assurance measures and other aspects of VOST sampling and analysis procedures are also discussed.
