Description:

A series of demonstration tests of the American Combustion, Inc. Thermal Destruction System was performed under the SITE program. his oxygen-enhanced combustion system was retrofit to the rotary kiln incinerator at EPA's Combustion Research Facility. his system's performeance was tested firing contaminated soil from the Stringfellow Superfund Site, both alone and mixed with a coal tar waste (K087). Comparative performance with conventional incinerator operation was also tested. ompliance with the incinerator performance standards of 99.99 percent principal hazardous constituents (POHC) destruction and removal efficiency and particulate emissions of less than 180 mg/dscm at 7 percent O2 was for all tests. he Pyretron system was capable of in-compliance performance at double the mixed waste feedrate and at 0 percent increase in batch waste charge mass than possible ith conventional incineration. crubber blowdown and kiln ash contained no detectable levels of any of the POHCs chosen.
