Citation:

Duke, K., M. Davis, AND A. Dennis. IERL-RTP PROCEDURES MANUAL: LEVEL 1. ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT BIOLOGICAL TESTS FOR PILOT STUDIES. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/7-77/043 (NTIS PB268484), 1977.

Description:

The manual gives Level 1 biological testing procedures (recommended by Industrial Environmental Research Laboratory--Research Triangle Park) for personnel experienced in conducting bioassays on samples from industrial and energy producing processes. The phased environmental assessment strategy provides a framework for industry, process, and stream priorities on the basis of a staged sampling and analysis technique. Level 1 is a screening phase that characterizes the pollutant potential of process influent and effluent streams. The manual presents the strategy of the phased approach. It also presents the basic sampling procedures and the Level 1 protocol for the biological tests used to analyze the samples. It briefly discusses possible bioassay procedures for Levels 2 and 3. The manual is a companion to 'IERL-RTP Procedures Manual: Level 1 Environmental Assessment,' EPA-600/2-76-160a, June 1976.
