Description:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) established the Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program (EMAP) to provide quantitative assessment of the condition of our nation's ecological resources. he Methods Coordination Group is responsible for coordinating methods issues across the program. his document provides guidance on preparing written methods and compiling the methods into hardcopy and electronic methods manuals. he guidance provides specifications on document content and format which apply to all field collection, field measurement, chemical laboratory measurement, and biological laboratory measurement methods prepared for the EMAP. ll EMAP methods and manuals prepared subsequent to this guidance will be required to conform to the specifications, which include requirements for: ) formatting and arranging methods manuals; 2) preparing methods according to the Environmental Monitoring Methods Council (EMMC) method format; and 3) preparing electronic versions of methods which are compatible with the methods database and Internet document systems. onformance to these specifications will result in consistent methods documentation across the program which is a key part of a long-term monitoring effort.
