HYDROLOGIC FEATURES FOR PA, MD, DE, DC, VA, AND WV AT 1:2,000,000 SCALE

Description:

The Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program (EMAP) is planning in conjunction with EPA Region III a comprehensive multiple resource assessment in the Mid-Atlantic region--the land area and near coastal waters associated with all of PA, WV, MD, DE, VA, and parts of NJ, NY, and NC. Components of the Mid-Atlantic Integrated Assessment (MAIA) Project will be: (1) a research dimension that develops and tests crossresource indicators of ecological condition and stress; (2) a monitoring dimension that seeks to characterize the condition of ecological resources--forests, agroecosystems, streams, estuaries, landscapes; and (3) an assessment dimension that involves diagnostic analysis of associations between condition and stressors. Results will result in enhancements to the EMAP design and approach and will provide insight into the efficacy of ecosystem and watershed management approaches to addressing resource and environmental protection concerns at different spatial scales. The projects goals are to integrate data across EMAP resources to characterize the overall condition of ecological resources at various spatial scales, examine possible associations between stressors and condition indicators of multiple EMAP resources at various spatial scales, integrate EMAP and ancillary data for characterizing ecological condition and possible associations with stressors of diverse origins, explore the implications of spatial scale in interpreting multiple-resource monitoring data and making associations with stressors, and refine and further develop EMAP assessment approaches and transfer information to stakeholders to improve bases for management decisions. This data layer includes rivers and streams for PA, MD, DE, DC, VA, and WV at a scale of 1:2,000,000 and was released on June 24, 1994.. This data layer also includes county names and FIPS codes, state name abbreviations, hydrologic unit codes and names, and Omerniks ecoregion codes and names.
