Description:

The problem of ground water contamination has provided a need for detailed information on ground water quality. Well drilling and sampling provide limited information, especially when trying to delineate a ground water contamination plume. D.C. electrical geophysical methods are being increasingly used to help delineate contaminated ground water, however, these methods provide only resistivity data. Simple resistivity is affected by many different parameters (such as pore geometry, pore fluid chemistry and clay content) and it is often not possible to develop a unique interpretation of the data. Complex resistivity (CR) is a method that provides considerably more information about the saturated porous medium, thus introducing the possibility of reducing the unknown parameters that affect the electrical properties of the porous medium and thereby providing a unique interpretation.
