Description:

Arsenotriglutathione, a product of the reduction of arsenate and the complexation of arsenite by glutathione, is a mixed type inhibitor of the reduction of glutathione disulfide by purified yeast glutathione reductase or the glutathione reductase activity in rabbit erythrocyte lysate. rsenotriglutathione is a more potent inhibitor of the reduction of glutathione disulfide by purified yeast glutathione reductase than is either arsenite or glutathione. hin layer chromatography shows that arsenotriglutathione is stable in the assay conditions used, indicating that it is this complex which exerts an inhibitory effect on glutathione reductase. t is suggested that arsenotriglutathione may be the chemical species which mediates some of the effects of arsenic on cellular metabolism.
