This manual provides a technical field guide or reference document for use in improving the performance of facilities for the treatment of metal finishing wastes. The main purpose of the manual is to provide a troubleshooting guide for identifying problems, analyzing problems, and solving problems. The manual describes general procedures for evaluating the performance of treatment processes and equipment commonly used in metal finishing waste treatment. The procedures also cover other items related to the effective operation of treatment facilities. The methodology used to evaluate compliance problems and develop Operation and Maintenance specifics are described in a review of the literature, followed by an assessment of the causes of permit violations and the recommended measures for improving compliance. The unit processes described in this manual are those commonly used in the treatment of metal finishing wastes.
