Description:

This manual was prepared to assist designers and operators of mine drainage treatment plants in the selection of processes, equipment, and procedures. Included is a review of the most popular neutralizing agents and the methods used to handle, prepare, and feed these alkalies. Also, a detailed engineering explanation of the various processes applicable to treatment are presented. The practical methods of sludge dewatering and disposal are explained along with modes of operation to improve solids content of the final volume. Techniques for lagooning and closure of such facilities are also discussed. Examples of two treatment facility designs are included delineating general equipment specifications. Concluding the manual is a cost estimating section with example estimates based on the two sample designs.
