Adams, T. AND J. McCready. USER'S GUIDE TO CLOSURE EVALUATION SYSTEM: CES BETA-TEST VERSION 1.0. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/C-92/005 (NTIS PB93502870).

Description:

The Closure Evaluation System (CES) is a decision support tool designed to serve as a checklist for identifying potential design problems in landfill closures. he CES system is comprised of three component systems designed to provide advice about closures of hazardous waste land disposal sites. he Vegetative Cover Evaluation System (V-CES) advises whether a proposed vegetation will meet basic EPA criteria such as drought resistance, protection against erosion, and minimum continued maintenance. t confirms that the planting/seeding plan is consistent with horticulture practices and that the selected plant species is compatible with regional climate characteristics. he Final Cover Evaluation System (F-CES) advises whether a proposed final cover design includes the minimum components required by EPA, whether the system will function as required by EPA, and if it adheres to basic construction principles for RCRA caps as outlined in EPA technical resource documents. he Leachate Collection Evaluation System (L-CES) advises whether a proposed leachate collection design will perform satisfactorily. t performs a number of calculations intended to expose potential design flaws. t is a design review tool that screens various characteristics of a leachate collection system including hydraulic capacity of the system, pipe strength, and potential for clogging. ince each component is a "stand alone" system, you can work with one component during a CES consultation or work with all three components in any order.
