Description:

Ninety-eight slides from eight lakes in the Adirondack Mountains of the northeastern United States have been distributed as an exsiccata to 16 museums and collections around the world. his exsiccata presents slides of material from sediments of Adirondack Mountain lakes that were examined as part of the Paleoecological Investigation of Recent Lake Acidification (PIRLA) project. he slides were prepared from sediment cores representing microfloras dating from 1930 to 1983. ne of the objectives of this project was to analyze diatom assemblages from dated sediment cores to determine if lakes had acidified and, if so, by how much and when. heBe voucher sets are still used extensively for systematics and taxon verifications. ith the current research initiative into environmental impact studies and biomonitoring, there is a need for additional voucher exsiccate for long-term impact assessments and a need for access to well-documented materials in museums.
