DATABASE OF THE OCCURENCE AND DISTRIBUTION OF PESTICIDES IN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY

Citation:

Description:

This U.S. Department of Agriculture database provided by the Agricultural Research Service compiled most of the pesticide residue data measured in surface water, surface microlayer, groundwater, sediment, and biota, of Chesapeake Bay from 1976 to 1994. It was prepared to facilitate the preparation of its companion document, The Occurrence and Distribution of Pesticides in Chesapeake Bay (Johnson et al. 1994), a literature synthesis and summary of this data base. A primary objective in developing the data base was to evaluate whether nearly two decades of pesticide monitoring in the region provided sufficient information to assess the potential for pesticide impacts to the living resources of the Bay from exposure to current use pesticides. The data base provides a single source for most of the exiting information on the spatial and temporal distribution of pesticide residues in the region for a target list of twelve pesticides. Data was compiled and entered into a computer spreadsheet to facilitate data evaluation, access trends, and identify problem pesticides and geographic areas of potential or confirmed impacts. It should be noted that methods of data collection and reporting, collection gear, and methods of bioassay vary and may not provide complete coverage. Metadata link: http://www.agnic.org/cbp/
