Description:

The report gives results of a measurement of the performance of a National Dust Collector Model 850 variable rod module venturi scrubber at an industrial installation. Fine particle collection efficiency as a function of particle size was computed from the data collected. The scrubber tower was operated at 1010 std cu meters/min at 35 C with a total pressure drop of 224 cm (88 in.) W.C. with a pressure drop across the venturi module of 178 cm (70 in.) W.C. The emission source was an iron cupola which processes both ductile and gray iron, with the latter producing a higher grain loading. The ductile iron source particulates had a mass mean diameter range of 0.25-0.84 micrometers A (aerodynamic particle diameter) with a standard deviation range of 1.5-2.0. The gray iron source particulates had a mass mean diameter range of 0.54-1.9 micrometers A with a standard deviation range of 1.5-1.8. The overall average collection efficiency for ductile iron melting was 98.7%. For gray iron melting, the average collection efficiency was also 98.7% even though the cupola emission was lower for ductile iron.
