The purpose of this manual is to present a contemporary review of sludge processing technology and the specific procedures to be considered, modified, and applied to meet unique conditions. he manual emphasizes the operational considerations and interrelationships of the various sludge treatment processes to be considered before selecting the optimum design. he manual also presents case histories of existing wastewater treatment plants to illustrate the various unit processes and results. he topics discussed in the chapters of this manual are: ethodology and nomenclature, the occurrence of sludge and physical and chemical properties relating to processability, sludge thickening (blending), sludge stabilization (reduction), sludge conditioning, sludge dewatering, final disposal processes, case histories pertaining to the use of chemicals in excess activated sludge processing, and case histories of sludge treatment by high temperature and pressure.
