This document outlines the framework for developing, validating, and applying biomarkers that ORD uses to facilitate planning, budget allocations, and collaboration in biomarker research. ithin the frame work of this biomarkers research plan, ORD evaluates EPA's regulatory needs, its own capabilities, and the state-of-the-science. n this evaluation, ORD considers biomarker techniques as tools in understanding life processes: thus, rather than exploring biomarkers as ends in themselves ORD incorporates biomarker research efforts into ongoing and future research programs. he document also defines terms and concepts used in this research in an effort to standardize their se across ORD laboratories.
