Description:

The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the Waste Reduction Evaluations at Federal Sites (WREAFS) Program and to discuss the results of completed waste minimization opportunity assessments within the Federal community. he overview contains documentation of waste minimization assessments conducted at the Philadelphia Navy Shipyard, Fort Riley (Kansas) Army Forces Command, the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station (Keyport, Washington), and the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. n addition, an ongoing assessment is being conducted at the AWBERC (EPA, Cinn., OH), and a waste minimization research study is being conducted on waste solvents under an interagency agreement with the US Air Force. hese projects have investigated waste minimization opportunities for a wide variety of waste streams and the recommendation presented significantly reduced waste generation and provide savings in raw material and disposal costs.
