Description:

An emission inventory of mobile off-highway sources of air pollution has been determined for the Regional Air Pollution Study (RAPS) in St. Louis, Missouri. Emissions of HC, CO, NOx, SOx and particulate matter have been calculated with the aid of a computer for the 1,989 grid squares comprising the St. Louis Air Quality Control Region. Source categories included motorcycles, lawn and garden equipment, industrial equipment, construction equipment, farm equipment and outboard motorboats. Emissions contributed by each category were treated separately. Simplifying assumptions pertaining to area distribution of source populations and usage were used to make calculations possible which generally inadequate data would have otherwise prohibited. The procedures involved in arriving at grid element emission values are described in detail.
