Description:

Pilot-Scale incineration testing was conducted at the United StatesEnvironmental Protection Agency's Incineration Research Facility(IRF) to support the development of best demonstrated availabletechnology (BDAT) standards for the treatment of several hazardouswastes from specific sources (K-Wastes). ll testing was conductedin the IRF's rotary kiln system. his paper summarizes the resultsof this testing for four of these wastes. he objective was todetermine if these wastes could be incinerated by a well designed, well operated incinerator based on compliance with the hazardouswaste incinerator regulations and to characterize the incinerationresiduals for hazardous constituents. t was found that thesewastes could generally be incinerated in compliance with theseregulations. owever, the mist carryover from the air pollutioncontrol device would have to be more effectively controlled to meetthe particulate standard in some cases. o detectable amounts ofprinciple organic hazardous constituents (POHC's) were found ineither the kiln ash or scrubber blowdown.
