Description:
Chemical Engineers face major research challenges associated withthe imperative to protect and improve the environment. hesechallenges include designing optimal, less polluting chemicalplants and processes, improving air quality through research, managing hazardous wastes responsibly, and developing multimediaapproaches to reduce the chemical risk to human health and theenvironment. Since 1988, the USEPA has established a pollutionprevention R&D program to work with states, local governments, regional and federal agencies, and industry to encourage theidentification, development and demonstration of pollutionprevention, technologies and methods to reduce wastes. he authorwill provide an overview of the chemical process industry effort toreduce wastes, review the USEPA pollution prevention researchprogram and projects, and describe approaches to reduce wastes inchemical plants.
