Description:
A procedure was developed for the determination of trace quantities of a broad range of carbamate pesticides. The carbamates were hydrolyzed and derivatized in a single step, using alkali and alpha-bromo-2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorotoluene (PFBB), and were subsequently analyzed using electron capture gas chromatography. This one step derivatization method created a novel derivative in which one fluorine on the PFB ring was displaced by an ethoxide ion via aromatic nucleophilic substitution.
