Lead test kits offer a potentially rapid, inexpensive, and simple to use technique for the analysis of low levels of lead in paint, soil, and house dust. n order to assess the feasibility of homeowners and contractors using test kits as an indicator of the need for or success of lead abatement, a number of screening tests were performed on test kits on the market in 1990. he results were published as "Investigations of Test Kits for Detection of Lead in Paint, Soil and Dust," EPA 600/R-93/085. raft of this report was reviewed by the manufacturers of the test kits. his document presents their comments and general recommendations derived from the discussions with the manufacturers. he results of the tests performed were used to focus the next phase of EPA's lead research program, and likely resulted in the manufacturers making improvements in the new generation of tests kits currently on the market.
