Bowker, R. AND H. Stensel. DESIGN MANUAL: PHOSPHORUS REMOVAL. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/625/1-87/001 (NTIS PB95232914), 1987.

Description:

This manual summarizes process design information for the best developed methods for removing phosphorus from wastewater. his manual discusses several proven phosphorus removal methods, including phosphorus removal obtainable through biological activity as well as chemical precipitation techniques. he use of lime as a chemical precipitant for phosphorus removal is not covered in this manual due to its loss of popularity as a phosphorus removal technique. reatment methods in which phosphorus removal occurs, but is not a principal objective, are also omitted. he latter group of processes includes such technologies as ion exchange, reverse osmosis and other demineralization treatments which at present are more closely associated with wastewater renovation and reuse than with pollution control. he information contained in this manual is oriented toward esign methods and operating procedures for removal of phosphorus from wastewater. ost, information from actual phosphorus-removing installations is presented when available. lanning level cost estimates are also included.
