Description:

The microbial metabolism of the mosquito control agent, fenthion, has been studied in shake flask systems containing water and sediment from a salt marsh. The usefulness of this information in describing the fate of fenthion in microcosms and in a field dosing experiment was determined. The authors results show that microbial communities associated with the sediment, the presence of invertebrate animals in the sediment bed, and the anaerobic conditions of the sediment contribute significantly to the fate of fenthion under natural conditions.
