Citation:

SEMINAR PUBLICATION: LANDFILL BIOREACTOR DESIGN AND OPERATION. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/R-95/146 (NTIS PB96156567), 1996.

Description:

These proceedings are from a conference on the subject of municipal waste landfill (MSWLF) bioreactors that was held in Wilmington, Delaware on March 23-24, 199-5. iologically active landfill operation represents a fundamentally different operational technique foro MSWLFs because it uses the distribution of moisture in the form of landfill leachate to accelerate naturally occurring decomposition processes to rapidly stabilize the waste mass. he technique also has the benefits of enhanced control of landfill gas, optimization of landfill volume, and, most importantly, the reduction of long-term environmental risk. he seminar was held to determine the level of knowledge about this operational technique.
