OCCUPATIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PESTICIDE EXPOSURE STUDY IN SOUTH FLORIDA

Citation:

Davies, J. OCCUPATIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PESTICIDE EXPOSURE STUDY IN SOUTH FLORIDA. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/1-77/019.

Description:

The investigation was designed to assess the occupational and environmental exposure to pesticides in South Florida, an area where pesticides are widely used. In addition to the conventional approach for measuring exposure to organophosphates and carbamates by means of cholinesterase determination, emphasis is given to the study of metabolites of pesticides in urine, the analysis of pesticide residues in samples of adipose tissue, and the monitoring of air for pesticide pollution. Attention is focused on the diagnostic and epidemiologic potential of certain biologic and environmental indices, such as the urinary metabolite profile and the concentration of pesticides in air, which are important with regard to the occupational health and safety of the worker and the protection of the general population against incidental exposure to pesticides.
