SUMMARY REPORT: SULFUR OXIDES CONTROL TECHNOLOGY SERIES: FGD LIME/LIMESTONE PROCESSES. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/625/8-81/006.
Description:
This summary report describes the use of lime or limestone as an option for the treatment of sulfur oxides at fossil fuel steam and electric generating facilities. n this treatment, an aqueous slurry of slaked lime or wet ground limestone absorbs sulfur oxide from flue gas. bsorbed sulfur oxide is removed from solution by a chemical reaction that forms a calcium sulfite and calcium sulfate solid solution and insoluble calcium sulfate dihydrate. olids resulting from this process are commonly disposed of in ponds or as landfill. ore details on the process as well as cost and technical advantages are described in the report.
