Description:

A comparative multimedia assessment of coal firing and oil firing in an industrial boiler was conducted. The assessment consists of several parts. First, comprehensive emissions assessments of each fuel were conducted. These comprehensive emissions assessments were used to develop a comparative emissions assessment. This assessment examines the differences in the quantities and character of the emissions resulting from the combustion of each fuel. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of gaseous, liquid, and solid emissions from the boiler and its control equipment were conducted to identify criteria pollutants and other species. The report consists of three volumes. This volume, Volume II, presents the comparative assessments. Included are a description of the test setting, the comparative emissions assessment, and the comparative environmental societal and energy impact assessment.
