The proceedings document presentations at the Symposium on Iron and Steel Pollution Abatement Technology for 1982, the fourth in this series, held in Pittsburgh on November 16-18, 1982. It provided a forum for the exchange of information on technological problems related to multimedia pollution control in the iron and steel industry. American and international representatives from industry, academia, the research community, public interest organizations, and Federal and state governments participated. The opening session dealt with cost reduction, rational decision-making in technological development, alternatives to confrontation between industry and environmentalists, a geographic approach to integrated environmental management, and environmental trade-offs. Subsequent sessions dealt with other aspects of solid waste, air, and water pollution abatement related to the industry. In all, 186 people participated in the symposium.
