Description:

This evaluation addresses the product quality, waste reduction and economic issues involved in recycling automotive and heavy-duty engine coolants. he specific recycling units evaluated are a fleet-size unit and a portable unit, both based on the technology of chemical filtration. oolant recycling was found to have good potential as a means of waste reduction and cost savings. ut further improvements are necessary in the product quality achieved by these units. roduct quality was evaluated by conducting selected performance testes recommended in ASTM D 3306, and ASTM D 4985 standards, and by chemical characterization of the spent, recycled, and virgin coolants. his report was submitted in partial fulfillment of Contract Number 68-CO-0003, Work Assignment 0-06, under the sponsorship of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. his report covers the period from September 1, 1990 to October 31, 1991 and work was completed as of October 31, 1991.
