Description:

The report describes an integrated fluidized-bed coal gasification reactor and acid gas removal system. The gasifier operates at 100 psig at up to 2000 F, and has a coal feed capacity of 50 lb/hr. The gas cleaning system contains a cyclone, a venturi scrubber, and an absorber/flash-tank/stripper system for acid gas removal. The overall objective of the research carried out using the facility is to characterize completely the gaseous and condensed phase emissions as a function of plant operating conditions. The report contains a detailed description of the plant and associated facilities, a summary of operating procedures, and results of a run for the steam-oxygen gasification of a Western Kentucky No. 11 coal char. By following the outlined operating procedures, the plant can be brought to steady state in less than 4 hours. At steady state, satisfactory material balance closures were achieved on total mass and major elements.
