Description:

Wastewater sludges were stabilized by Purifax treatment, anaerobic digestion and heat conditioning. The processed sludges from the Purifax process at chlorine dosages normally used in processing wastewater sludges contained 2 to > 14 times the total organic chlorine content of the other processes. Most of the organic chlorine was insoluble and associated with the sludge cake. In analyses for priority pollutants, less than 16 percent of the chlorinated material was recovered.
