NEUROTOXICANT 1-METHYL-4-PHENYL-1,2,36-TETRAHYDROPYRIDINE (MPTP) ALTERS IMMUNE FUNCTION WHEN GIVEN IN COMBINATION WITH DIETHYLDITHIOCARBAMATE (DDC). U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/D-91/191 (NTIS PB91231092).

Description:

The T-cell suppression induced by the dopaminergic neurotoxicant, 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) can be reversed if treatment is proceeded by low dosages of diethyldithocarbamate (DDC). owever, if the dosage of DDC is high enough to potentiate the neurotoxicity associated with MPTP, thymic and spleen involution occur suggesting this dosing regimen may impair immune function. hus, the immunotoxic and neurotoxic effects of the high dose regimen were studied.
