McCandless, R., A. Bodocsi, AND P. Cluxton. GEOTECHNICAL ANALYSIS FOR REVIEW OF DIKE STABILITY (GARDS). TECHNICAL MANUAL. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/2-86/109A.

Description:

The structure and capabilities of a user-friendly, interactive computer program developed for the stability analysis of dikes (GARDS) are described. The program was developed under the sponsorship of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and therefore emphasizes Hazardous Waste applications although it is suitable for general use. It is designed to guide regulatory personnel who have a geotechnical background through the customary steps of earth dike analysis considering slope stability, settlement, liquefaction, hydraulic flow and pressure conditions, and piping. The GARDS software is designed for use on the IBM-PC/XT, PC/AT, or compatible microcomputer. User documentation consists of this Technical Manual which includes program operational procedures, example computer solutions for each analysis, and recommended minimum safety criteria.
