Description:

EPA and DOE established a multi-year Interagency Agreement (IAG) in1991. he main objective of the IAG (and of the second IAG that was added in 1993) is to conduct a research program on thermal technologies for treating mixed waste and to establish permit procedures for these technologies particularly under the requirements of the new EPA Combustion Strategy. s a result, a National Technical Workgroup (NTW) was also established in 1991. he NTW is composed of major stakeholders (representatives) from DOE, EPA (permit writers, and research personnel), NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission), regulating States and Citizens Advisory Groups. he mission of the NTW is to assist in reviewing the outputs of the IAG research activities to ensure the integrity of the research data, and to support the development of coordinated, consistent, and environmentally protective national permit procedures for mixed waste thermal treatment. he objective of this Paper is to present an initial IAG/NTW study---one emphasizing the Development of a Permit "Roadmap" for Mixed Waste Thermal Treatment Technologies.
