Impact/Purpose:

As requested by EPA Region 5 and MDHHS, this presentation applies 2017-2019 childhood BLL data to the existing mapping methodology established in Xue et al. paper published in EHP in 2022. The intent is to share this presentation and associated spreadsheet with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, as well as any other MI collaborators (i.e., MI EGLE) during a working group meeting on 4/18/2023.

Description:

This analysis applied 2017-2019 childhood blood lead level (BLL) data to the existing mapping methodology established in Xue et al. paper published in EHP in 2022 and compared the results to 2014-2016. There was moderate statistical agreement between the spatial analyses for 2014-2016 and 2017-2019. The top 20th percentile of elevated BLL census tracts for 2017-2019 were identified by at least 1 of the 3 Pb exposure indices based on housing age and sociodemographics. There were 152 unique census tracts not identified by any of the three Pb exposure indices for 2017-2019, with 56 in common with 2014-2016. Specific census tract numbers are identified in the Excel spreadsheet that we intend to share with EPA Region 5 and MDHHS for follow-up actions.
