Description:

The Cincinnati-based Risk Reduction Engineering Laboratory, Office of Research and Development, U.S. EPA operates the Incineration Research Facility (IRF) in Jefferson, Arkansas. his facility's pilot-scale experimental incineration systems include a Rotary Kiln System and a Liquid Injection System. ach system incorporates primary and secondary combustors and associated waste handling equipment, process controllers, safety equipment and air pollution control devices. hese "state-of-practice" incinerators are fully permitted to test the entire range of RCRA hazardous wastes normally encountered in the hazardous waste treatment industry. ue to the magnitude of hazardous waste disposal problems that might be managed by thermal destruction and the unique capabilities of this facility, it is believed that the utilization of the IRF should be expanded and made available to industry, academia, and other governmental agencies to pursue cooperative studies that would be of mutual benefit. he Stevenson-Wydler Technology Innovation Act, as amended by the Federal Technology Transfer Act of 1986, provides a great deal of flexibility for the Federal Government to develop and fund cooperative studies that were previously not possible. The purpose of this article is to briefly describe this facility and its capabilities, and to make it known to potential third-party users that we are interested in conducting cooperative research at the IRF.
