Connecting Environmental Futures with Environmental Decision-making: a Review
Impact/Purpose:
This poster is for the indicators session at the AGU annual meeting and describes a review of prognostics methods and application for environmental indicators. The solution and review objectives are to review environmental futures programs and projects: (1) to identify and discuss key attributes of environmental futures programs and projects; and (2) to propose attributes that support successful connection with decision processes.
Description:
Environmental decision-makers must make long-term investments in infrastructure and programs with currently available information. Having some understanding of what could occur in the future can help decision-makers evaluate their options and be proactive instead of reactive. However, designing environmental futures work, such as projections, horizon scanning, and forecasting, to support decision-making can be complex.
