Clear Spring Foods, Inc., conducted a year-long study in the Middle Snake River to provide a perspective on water quality issues and the impact of aquaculture activities on water quality. The study area extended from Shoshone Falls Park to below Box Canyon. Physical and chemical water quality data and discharge data were collected in the river mainstem and major tributaries, at Twin Falls Municipal Treatment Facility, and at Clear Spring Foods hatcheries (including influent and effluent water). Forty-one stations were monitored: 8 river mainstem, 8 tributaries, 1 at the treatment plant, and 7 at various Clear Spring Foods fish hatcheries.

Data Use & Constraints :All chemical analyses (except dissolved oxygen) were conducted according to USEPA- approved procedures. Dissolved oxygen was determined by electronic meter according to Standard Methods. All laboratory analyses were conducted according to Good Laboratory Practices. Sample duplicates, blanks, and spiked samples were collected at randomly selected sites. Results of the monthly proficiency testing program by an independent laboratory were within USEPA acceptance limits. Approximately 20% of the samples analyzed were for QA/QC purposes.
