Grassle, J., R. Elmgren, AND J. Grassle. RESPONSE OF BENTHIC COMMUNITIES IN MERL EXPERIMENTAL ECOSYSTEMS TO LOW LEVEL, CHRONIC ADDITIONS OF NO. 2 FUEL OIL. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/J-80/389.

Description:

The macrofauna and meiofauna of three oiled and three control experimental ecosystems at the Marine Ecosystems Research Laboratory were followed for 25 weeks of semi-continuous additions of an oil-water dispersion of No. 2 fuel oil. Water column hydrocarbon levels were maintained. This simulated chronic oil pollution resulted in a highly significant decline in the number of macrofaunal and meiofaunal individuals in the experimental tanks compared with the controls.
