Schaeffer, B., R. Conmy, Michael Galvin, J. Johnston, D. Keith, AND E. Urquhart. Satellite-Detected Cyanobacteria in Large U.S. Lakes on Your Android Phone. LAKELINE. North American Lake Management Society, Madison, WI, 39(2):21-26, (2019).

Impact/Purpose:

The CyAN app is being publicly released and this article announces that release at the request of the chairperson for the North American Lake Management Society's Inland HABs committee. The summer issue of Lakeline, will focus on cyanobacteria. Brief overview of CyAN mobile application, capabilities and feedback.

Description:

The CyAN app provides easy access to satellite data and some basic analysis, delivering a proactive ability to monitor spatial and temporal information on cyanoHAB events across more than 2,000 of the largest US lakes and reservoirs. This intuitive tool reduces the barriers to accessing satellite water quality data for monitoring and improves the use of limited resources in responding to events. The mobile application is available to the public this year and will soon be on the Google Play store and at www.epa.gov/cyanoproject.
