DIRECT REDUCTION: A REVIEW OF COMMERCIAL PROCESSES
Citation:
Twidwell, L. DIRECT REDUCTION: A REVIEW OF COMMERCIAL PROCESSES. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/2-80/036.
Description:
The report gives results of a review of direct reduction commercial processes for ironmaking. The potential for environmental degradation appears to be minimal. A detailed environmental assessment does not appear to be warranted. It is recommended that samples of scrubber water and sludge material be collected and characterized from several gas reductant reactor systems. It is also recommended that rotary-kiln solid-reductant reactors be sampled to ensure that the final gas effluent does not contain harmful concentrations of organic species, sulfur oxides, and trace element contaminants; and that such systems be observed to ascertain that fugitive emissions are not released from the kiln at harmful rates.
