Phillips, K., K. Isaacs, K. Dionisio, J. Wambaugh, AND A. Williams. The US EPA activities and information systems used for chemical exposure screening, modelling and prioritisation and risk-based decision making: needs, challenges and opportunities for data sharing and interoperability of tools on global scale including IPCHEM (ISES Annual Meeting). Presented at ISES-ISEE 2018 Joint Annual Meeting, Ontario, CANADA, August 26 - 30, 2018.

Impact/Purpose:

This presentation will highlight the work that has gone into obtain data on the use and composition in consumer products, and how that data is made available to the public so that it can be shared. In addition, it will cover models that are used to estimate similar data where there is none available to the public.

Description:

Within the US EPA Office of Research and Development’s (ORD’s) Chemicals for Safety and Sustainability research program, efforts are underway to provide information that is useful for the prioritize thousands of chemicals for risk-based prioritization, particularly those found in consumer products. The information has been made publicly available through ORD’s Chemistry Dashboard. The research efforts that contribute to collection and curation of consumer product formulations and articles compositions and ingredient uses will be discussed. This information is obtained through both automated collection techniques from manufacturer-supplied documents and measurement of chemicals via suspect screening analysis. Finally, predictions from ORD-developed models predicting such values as physicochemical properties, functional use, product composition, and chemical exposure, which are provided via the Chemistry Dashboard, will be discussed.
