Citation:

Foster, W. AND R. Sullivan. SEWER INFILTRATION AND INFLOW CONTROL PRODUCT AND EQUIPMENT GUIDE. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/2-77/017c.

Description:

The report lists and discusses new and existing equipment, materials, and practices available to prevent the entry of unwanted water into the sewer system from infiltration and inflow, and thereby needlessly usurping the capacity of the sewerage system. The report has six sections covering: A description of sewer cleaning techniques and equipment needed to help locate points of infiltration and inflow and to improve the accuracy of flow measurement; a review of flow-measurement equipment and techniques needed for a determination of the quantity of infiltration and inflow; an examination of equipment and practices used to inspect the sewers and locate the entry points of unwanted water. This involves closed-circuit television, photographic inspection, low-pressure air testing, and smoke inspection; a discussion of current sewer-grouting practices, equipment, and material, concentrating on the acrylamide gel and the elastomeric grouting compound; a review of insertion pipe for rehabilitation, sewer fittings, and a brief discussion of trench backfilling monitored by nuclear soil-density meters; and an examination of safety practices that should be followed when crews undertake the task of controlling sewer infiltration and inflow.
