ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS OF SELECTED ENERGY CONSERVING MANUFACTURING PROCESS OPTIONS: VOLUME III. IRON AND STEEL INDUSTRY REPORT. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/7-76/034c.
Description:
This study assesses the likelihood of new process technology and new practices being introduced by energy intensive industries and explores the environmental impacts of such changes. Volume 3 deals with the iron and steel industry and examines four alternatives: (1) recovery of carbon monoxide from BOP (basic oxygen process), (2) external desulfurization of blast-furnace hot metal, (3) conversion from wet to dry coke quenching, and (4) direct reduction of iron ore, all in terms of relative process economics and environmental/energy consequences.
