Citation:

MacMillan, D. Environmental Contaminants, Metabolites, Cells, Organ Tissues, and Water: All in a Day’s Work at the EPA Analytical Chemistry Research Core. Sciex User and Technology Meeting, Raleigh, North Carolina, October 05, 2017.

Impact/Purpose:

The talk will highlight key aspects and results of analytical methods the Analytical Chemistry Research Core develops and uses.

Description:

The talk will highlight key aspects and results of analytical methods the EPA National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL) Analytical Chemistry Research Core (ACRC) develops and uses to provide data on disposition, metabolism, and effects of environmentally-important chemicals for a wide variety of NHEERL research projects. Analytical methods for determination of thyroid hormone levels in glands and plasma after exposure to thyroid drugs, compounds related to CYP450 induction in hepatocytes in cell media, and metabolic changes after exposure to a neurotoxicant will be presented, along with use of the data to inform EPA research. The Core’s role in a recent inter-laboratory validation of a method to identify and quantitate perfluorinated compounds in water will also be discussed.
