Impact/Purpose:
This poster describes an interface developed to enhance user interaction with a complex system dynamics model, developed to evaluate the multi-dimensional impacts of the Durham-Orange Light Rail
Description:
System Dynamics (SD) models are useful for holistic integration of data to evaluate indirect and cumulative effects and inform decisions. Complex SD models can provide key insights into how decisions affect the three interconnected pillars of sustainability. However, the complexity of large SD models can reduce their approachability by stakeholders and managers who are unfamiliar with SD modeling software. The System Dynamics Model User Sustainability Explorer (SD-MUSE) increases approachability, encourages exploration, facilitates interpretation of large SD models and their results. SD-MUSE is a point-and-click interface built around a complex SD model that operates through the Mozilla Firefox web browser. This work presents the features SD-MUSE and discusses the generalizability of this tool.
