Description:

The effect of daily p.o. injections of 20 mg/kg lindane on nitroreductase, azo reductase, B-glucuronidase, dechlorinase and dehydrochlorinase enzyme activity in the rat intestinal tract vas investigated after 2 weeks and 5 weeks of treatment. Antibiotics were administered to half of the treated rats after 4 weeks of treatment. Results of this study indicated that lindane significantly increased nitro reductase and azo reductase activity in the small intestine, that there were regional difference in the effect of lindane as well as differences dependent on the exposure duration. The results also suggest the presence of substantial levels of mucosal enzyme in the small intestine.
