Description:

There are large numbers of chemicals and drugs which are known to be cataractogenic. Many of these chemicals specifically affect the very young lens, while adult lenses are much less affected or refractory to these chemicals. In this review chapter we discuss those chemicals which are specific in their effect on young lenses, and point out possible mechanisms for the selectivity of these effects.
