RESONANT OSCILLATION IN DULUTH-SUPERIOR HARBOR

Citation:

Jordan, T., K. Stortz, AND M. Sydor. RESONANT OSCILLATION IN DULUTH-SUPERIOR HARBOR. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/J-81/640 (NTIS PB83244111), 1981.

Description:

The treatment of Duluth-Superior Harbor inlets as coupled oscillators yields Helmholtz resonance periods of 2.1-2.3 h. Analysis of water level oscillations in the harbor and currents in an inlet channel shows a 2.1-h mode, which seems to be excited by lake oscillations of nearly the same period.
