Potential Fuel Economy Improvements from the Implementation of cEGR and CDA on an Atkinson Cycle Engine
Citation:
Potential Fuel Economy Improvements from the Implementation of cEGR and CDA on an Atkinson Cycle Engine. SAE - SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS. SAE International, Warrendale, PA, , 9, (2017).
Impact/Purpose:
To present the potential GHG improvements from adding cEGR and CDA to an Atkinson engine with a 14:1 geometric compression ratio and estimate the fuel economy improvements from both steady state data and an ALPHA vehicle simulation of a future vehicle.
Description:
Present the implementation of cEGR and CDA on an Atkinson engine and use steady state fuel consumption maps to estimate the technologies’ potential fuel economy improvements over the FTP and Highway tests. In addition to use fuel weighted modes to determine possible fuel economy improvement of a current vehicle and the fuel map in ALPHA to evaluate potential fuel economy benefits of the technology in a future vehicle.
